This gourd has scenes of farmers harvesting. Signed Leoncio Veli. Measures about 3.5" tall X 5" diameter.
Leoncio Veli storyteller gourd/ box. Leoncio Veli has been carving for over 70 years and started at the age of 5. This art has been passed through generations. The gourds generally take 1 month to create. This is a beautiful detailed picture of a farmer/ rancher with his Llamas and home pictured. The piece is in excellent condition.
The art of gourd carving has been practiced for over 4,000 years to tell stories of cultural events, folklore, myths and tragedies. Some artisans use a burning technique called "quemado", to incorporate shades of brown and "Fondo Negro" to create black backgrounds by using fat and straw ash.
